Marburg

Marburg is a cool university town that until a few months ago, i had never heard of. I was just looking for some interesting day trip and came upon this. Down in Reutlingen i heard from the Länges that their son Daniel has been making many day trips there after landing a girlfriend who studies there.

I meant to contact him for some tips, but in the end it really didn't matter. I just concentrated on the main church and trying to get online. Without really any orientation at all, i just headed from the Bahnhof in the direction of the tallest spires. This turned out to be the St. Elisabeth church, and well worth a visit.

There was even a gaggle of nuns playing tourist, so i figure i was in the right place. Click on the picture on the right and chime in with all the things that strike you as odd. I keep coming back to the Jesus on the Cross in bed (with supper going on right now. I assume that's the next to the Last Supper.)

I spent quite a while in the church then went exploring up a narrow cobblestone alley where i came upon this chapel courtyard with a nice view of St. Elizabeths and the Marburg Fortress. From each of the 5 benches around, i could capture a different list of wireless internet signals, just none that i could tap into.

Even with no luck getting online, it was still a nice place to edit pictures and delete the hundreds of lesser quality duplicates. But i did need to get an important email out to Rob, so i went street to street.

Finally, on a mini-plaza in a pedestrian zone uphill on the way to the Marburg, i got connected to a weak signal. I got cut off 3 times retrieving email, but eventually got up to date. I waited for Rob to wake up for an impromptu web conference, but too soon it was time to head back to the Bahnhof.

More views from the point where i got online. I was nudged in between two shop entrances, and the signal was strongest when my zipper was pulled taught in its highest possible position. Eventually, the nun too many tourists overtook me. They continued up to the 'Burg whilst i went back downhill.

Ironically, i had passed InternetWorld just a block passed the Bahnhof on my way to St. Elisabeths. There wasn't much time left, so i just continued on to my train platform. With just 10 minutes until my train, i amazingly got a free signal from the platform (which has never happened fore or since) and caught Rob just as he was waking up with a most delicious case of morning hair. Anyway, we'll both have to return to Marburg some day...
