Oberlenningen

I am belated in posting this, an open apology to the City of Oberlenningen. You are not mere suburb of a suburb. You are Endstation on the Wendlingen-Oberlenningen Express. You are mighty. You are home to my friends Horst, Alice and Elisabeth; und daher hab' ich Dich lieb, Oberlenningen.

It was a sweet little Bahn-ride out to visit Horst et Al. (und Elis'), and for those of you keeping notes, Horst and i go back the late 80's, German department colleagues in both Eugene and Tübingen. Anyway... Elisabeth is all of three and was anxious to show me my new digs in the sticks. Horst, host extraordinaire, had Hefeweizen on hand, and in no time one in my hand.

And then... man... make... fire... we... eat... meat...

On the way back from my daytrip to Ulm, i got a bottle of red and a bushel of white. Asparagus, that is. This time it was cream of asparagus soup. Elisabeth and i both agreed. The little Spitzle taste the best.

Hans, go fetch wine... In the cellar where hard apple cider is also curing. Alice made Pfannkuchen to go with the asparagus and ham. Yummmm...

and a Bächle runs through it... The family Kurz-Mall (mal kurz?) have a beautiful home on the edge of town, with views to the surrounding hills and a creek running through which lends itself to nature hikes. And this we did.

And there were Bretzel for Breakfast

followed with finger painting, of which i now possess one. Danke, Elisabeth!

lieber hans,

you made more than up for your blunder about a "suburb of a suburb of a suburb".

i am mightily pleased about your more than positive account of your oberlenningen days.

we all hope to see you (two) here again some time soon.

greetings

horst
