This morning i set out for the shores of Holland from across the German border in Düsseldorf. Rob was in the air already long on his way to Amsterdam. I was supposed to arrive at our holiday apartment in Zandvoort before him, but he wound up landing and hour early, and my German InterCity train into Amsterdam Centraal was 19 minutes late. With just 20 minutes to transfer... well, you do the math. (Dutch trains still run on time.)
So, as it turned out, Rob boarded the same final train as i, just a couple of stops later, but i didn't discover this until i emerged from this, the last stop on the line. As i was looking for the map of the town, i spotted something familiar, despite his fancy new haircut from friend Giselle. I tailed him for a couple blocks... But i couldn't wait any longer, so... sort of a la my dad, who likes to accost strangers, i shouted out in Dutch, "Pardon, meneer. Ik zoek de Brederodestraat 34!"
After a sweet reception by our hosts Mehdi and Virginie, from whom we are renting their upstairs studio apartment, we set out in search of sustenance and the sea here at Zandvoort aan Zee.
